34 year old James Loose of Ashurst Road, Manchester has been sentenced at Manchester Crown Court to a total of 7 years, 6 months and 28 days.

The court heard that in January of this year, Loose had been involved in a dispute with another man which led to him threatening the man and smashing a window at his house.

Following a report made to police, a warrant was executed at an address in south Manchester and found Loose there attempting to flush items down the toilet.

At the property police seized quantities of cocaine, cannabis and cash as well as electronic scales, four mobile phones, body armour and sheets of paper used as ‘drugs debtors’ list.

Summer clampdown to make transport networks even safer

The Travelsafe Unit (TSU) has launched a clampdown on antisocial behaviour across Greater Manchester’s trams and buses.

Over the next two months, the unit will be running a focused campaign and increasing their patrols across the networks.

The clampdown has been planned to coincide with the school summer holidays, a time when youth-related antisocial behaviour in particular tends to increase.

The unit are also focusing on preventative measures and youth education. Uniformed officers have been visiting schools across the region to educate youngsters on the dangers, impacts and consequences of crime, antisocial behaviour and fare evasion on public transport.

In addition, the unit has taken part in recent Crucial Crew events in Oldham and Wythenshawe, which had a combined audience of over 3000 children. Crucial Crew events focus on delivering vital safety and security information to children aged between eight and 11.

TfGM Customer Operations Director, Stephen Rhodes, said: “It is really important to carry out work like this to enable us to ensure that every member of our community feels safe to travel via our public transport network without feeling intimidated or unduly concerned by the behaviour of others.

“The ability to share intelligence and use it to plan targeted strategies is one of the major advantages of having such a cohesive and dedicated unit and this is especially beneficial during periods such as the school summer holidays, when we tend to see more incidents.

“Public transport is a safe way to travel and the purpose of the unit is to help reinforce and maintain that through targeted operations such as this.”

Sergeant Cecelia Oakley from the TSU said: “Everybody has the right to travel from ‘A’ to ‘B’ without fear or intimidation and we will be working throughout the summer holidays to keep people safe and deter offences.

“Antisocial behaviour is unacceptable in any form and we ask people to think about the consequences of their actions and the effect it could have on others.

“If you witness antisocial behaviour please alert a member of staff or call 101 to report it. In an emergency, dial 999.”

Police investigating the rape of a woman in Moss Side are appealing for a key witness to come forward.

At around 9am on Friday 15 July 2016 GMP received a report of a rape of a woman in Moss Side, South Manchester.

The woman had left a nightclub on Princess Street in Manchester City Centre in the early hours of Friday morning and, some time later, was raped at an address in Ropemaker Court.

At around 5am, the woman got into a white Audi (possibly an Audi Q7) she believed to be a taxi.

The woman was verbally and physically abused by four males who were inside the car before she was thrown out of the vehicle onto a dual carriageway around 7am.

A man in a light-coloured van stopped and helped the woman before he took her to Piccadilly bus station.

Police want to trace the man who helped the woman as he may be able to help with the investigation.

Detective Inspector Dave Moores of GMP’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit, said: “I’m appealing to the man who helped the woman in her time of need to come forward and help us with the investigation. He played an important part in the safety of the woman that morning. I’m also appealing to anyone who may have seen the woman being thrown from the car or a car of that description in the area at the time.”

Police have released an e-fit of a man after a school girl was approached by a stranger in Hale.

At around 12:30pm on Friday 15 July 2016 a 13-year-old girl was walking on Hale Road on her way home from school when a man driving a small silver car pulled up next to her.

The man asked the girl for directions, which she gave him, before offering her a lift to where she was going.

Again she refused his offer and the man drove off.

He is described as a white man, aged between 50 and 60 with short grey hair and short stubble. He was wearing dark rimmed glasses and spoke with a local accent.

Detective Sergeant Dan Hayes from GMP’s Trafford borough said: “I understand this is a worrying incident which will no doubt cause concern but I want to assure everybody that we have launched a full investigation.

“The young girl was approached but refused to go with the man, which is a testament to her as she could have easily been tempted to take up the offer of a lift when it was raining.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who recognises the man in the e-fit to please get in touch. Likewise if you are the man who was involved in this incident and feel there is a different side to this report then come forward and give us your version of events.”

A man has been jailed after a 78-year-old woman was carjacked and run over with her own car.

Forty six year old Paul Anthony Moore of no fixed address has been sentenced to 11-years in prison.
At an earlier hearing, Moore pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, robbery and dangerous driving. He has been disqualified from driving for a further five and a half years after he has served his sentence.

On Wednesday 20 April, 78-year-old Dorothy Cooper was returning to her car on a car park off Sandy Lane in Royton, after doing some shopping when Paul Moore approached her vehicle and told her to get out as there was a problem with it.

Dorothy got out and bent down to see the problem. Moore then jumped into the vehicle and reversed at speed hitting Dorothy with the front of the car knocking her to the floor. Moore then drove over her as she lay in the car’s path.

Detective Constable Benjamin Miller, from GMP’s Oldham CID, said: “We are very pleased to see Paul Moore behind bars for this hideous crime.

“Moore didn’t care that he knocked over Dorothy, he proved that by driving straight over her. All he cared about was stealing her car. It was a cowardly act and he targeted the person he thought most vulnerable. It is a miracle that Dorothy survived, and I’m so happy that we have been able to get justice for her and her family.”
