If you are using public transport on New Year’s Eve in Manchester, please be aware of some changes to services and road closures in the city centre.

Thousands of people are expected to see the New Year in with a bang at the fireworks display in Piccadilly Gardens. Public transport will run to help get people to and from the event safely.

Metrolink will be running Saturday services throughout the day. Services are expected to be extremely busy before and after the New Year’s Eve fireworks display and customers should allow extra time for their journey.

Due to the crowds expected to attend the event, trams will not stop at the Market Street stop between approximately 11.40pm and 12.15am. During this short period, customers should use alternative stops at Piccadilly, Shudehill and St Peter’s Square.

Please plan ahead to catch your last tram home. Final services to all Metrolink destinations will depart St Peter’s Square at around 1am. More detailed information is available at www.metrolink.co.uk or by calling Metrolink Customer Services on 0161 205 2000.

Some city centre roads will be closed around Piccadilly Gardens for safety reasons from 11.15pm to 12.30am.

· Oldham Street between Back Piccadilly and Piccadilly

· Piccadilly between Oldham St and Lever St

· Parker St (Bus Station)

Most bus operators will run a different timetable during the day time and buses will stop running on many routes from 6pm. Some special night bus services will run until 4am on New Year’s Day morning.

For more detailed information on individual services, call Traveline on 0871 200 22 33 (calls cost 10p per minute plus any charges your network provider makes). Traveline festive opening hours can be found at www.tfgm.com/christmas.
