Oldham has officially added another Lidl to its shopping scene, as a brand-new store opened its doors at the Hollinwood Junction site on Thursday 27 November 2025.

The Mayor of Oldham and Leader of Oldham Council, Cllr Arooj Shah, joined pupils from local school Hollinwood Academy to open the store and welcome eager shoppers into the supermarket, located on Albert Street just off junction 22 of the M60.

The opening marks another huge milestone in the transformation of Hollinwood Junction, where work is already underway on the £25 million regeneration project led by Langtree in partnership with Oldham Council.

Due for completion in Summer 2026, the development has people at its heart and will deliver around 720 jobs – providing a huge boost to Oldham’s economy and creating real benefits for residents.

The store has created up to 40 full-time equivalent jobs, including vital roles for local people with support from the council’s Get Oldham Working service. The Get Oldham Working service aims to help residents of Oldham find work, plus offer training and wellbeing support when needed.

The work at Hollinwood Junction is a key part of Oldham’s plans to grow, including the creation of around 2,000 homes in the town centre and the revamped Spindles with a new market and events space.

Leader of Oldham Council, Cllr Arooj Shah, said:

“It’s great to welcome another Lidl store to Oldham. This investment brings new jobs, more choice for residents and another boost for our town.

“We are working hard to attract more businesses and create a stronger, more vibrant Oldham, so it is fantastic to see Lidl choosing to grow here. I want to thank everyone involved in getting the store ready for opening and I hope residents enjoy having even more access to affordable, good-quality shopping right on their doorstep.”

Tristian Campbell, a local resident supported by Get Oldham Working said:

“I have been working at Lidl in Chadderton for a few weeks now whilst waiting for the new store to open in Hollinwood, and I will then be transferred over. This is perfect for me as I live 5 minutes away from the store. I am really happy and loving the role as it’s a great company to work for.

“Having been unemployed for 6 months, I really feel that without Get Oldham Working and my adviser Dan’s support I wouldn’t had got this job – so a massive thank you!”
