The team behind Lime Bar and former Manchester City player, Mike Johnson have opened a new bar in Didsbury.
The newly established venue, the George Charles, is situated along Burton Road. The name comes from an Armenian man who moved to Manchester and married an English girl before opening an exotic fruit shop back in the 1890’s.

The history of the store is focal in the extensive renovation. Bar manager Ben Brown, previously of The Parlour, Chorlton, said: “We looked into the history of the shop because we thought something that old must have an interesting story behind it. It’s really quite exciting, I can’t wait to get in and start serving.”
The bar itself features a cool and super cosy basement area, complete with stripped back wooden interiors, a champagne bottle riddling rack wall alongside four hand-pulled pumps.
A range of local and international beers ales and ciders will come from local breweries Brightside Brewing Company, Red Willow from Macclesfield, Tickety Brew and The Tweed Brewing Company.
Chef Andy McGann, previously of Lime Bar at Salford Quays, describes the food as modern European, with Asian influences and like Lime all the produce will be locally sourced. The menu will be a seasonal weekly rolling menu to offer a fresh and exciting menu regularly to Didsbury.
Partners Mike Johnson, a former Manchester City player, and David Vanderhook of Lime Bar, Salford Quays, believe the relaxed, traditional feel of The George Charles will be embraced by local residents of West Didsbury.

As an up and coming area Didsbury has seen its fair share of bars and restaurants popping up but The George Charles promises to offer something totally unique, traditional and cool to the area and the team are excited to set up in such a highly sought after spot.
