Neighbourhood Police officers provided life-saving treatment after a man was injured in a city centre restaurant after reports of a fight at St Ann’s Square yesterday afternoon

Officers from the Longsight and Rusholme Neighbourhood Policing Team, who were on patrol in the city centre, attended and performed emergency CPR on a man before paramedics arrived to take him to hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Chief Inspector Stephen Wiggins, of GMP’s City of Manchester Central division, said: “The officers acted quickly and decisively – all our officers are trained to carry out CPR and in this case may have saved a man’s life.

“He is recovering in hospital and hopefully he will make a full recovery.

“We are proud of all our officers and in this case we are putting them forward for a commendation.”

A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning.
