Manchester’s iconic music production school, Spirit Studios, is kicking off a year of special events centred around creating, making and curatingto celebrate its 40th anniversary, starting with a Sound Capture Workshop featuring toys from the ‘80s at Northern Quarter’s Fred Aldous on Saturday 18th April. 

Between 12pm and 3pm, music makers will come together to capture, create and manipulate sounds hidden within everyday ‘80s memorabilia, including Grandstand Scramble, Tomy Alien Chase, Pac-Man 2 handheld console and Skalextric – as well as using radio waves and mobile phones. 

Attendees at the hands-on workshop will also use an electro acoustic sound making Koma Elektronik Field Kit, contact microphones, pick-up coils, wires and random homemade instruments to curate abstract sounds and sequences.
