A murder investigation is underway following the death of a man after a serious assault in the Failsworth area last month

A man was treated for stab wounds following an incident on Hale Lane on Friday 19th June and taken to hospital, where sadly, he died on 4 July.

He has now been named as Steven Dossett, aged 40. His family are being supported by specialist officers.

Steven’s family are devastated by his loss and kindly request that their privacy be respected at this time.

A murder investigation has subsequently been launched and officers from our Major Incident Team are continuing to pursue multiple lines of enquiry.

Four men and one woman aged between 17 and 45 years, who were arrested on grievous bodily harm and assault offences, have been released on bail while investigations continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Anna Barker, the Senior Investigating Officer from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This was a shocking attack, which has now evolved into a murder investigation following the death of Steven last week.

“His family are being supported by specialist officers at this time, and we are keeping them updated as our work continues at pace.

“While we have made several arrests, we are still appealing for information and would urge anyone who witnessed anything of significance, or has any information relating to this incident, to please contact us. Even the smallest of detail may assist our enquiries.”

In particular, officers are keen to obtain any CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage from the area.
