The Select Committee on the High Speed Rail (Crewe – Manchester) Bill undertook a tour along the route of the proposed high-speed rail route provided for by the Bill.

Starting in Crewe and travelling north, the Committee saw the proposed sites of the Crewe Tunnel and rolling stock depot, the Hoo Green junction, the Ashley railhead and the new Manchester Airport high-speed station, as well as the proposed sites of infrastructure features such as vent shafts, viaducts and auto transformer stations.

The visit enabled the Committee to become familiar with some of the sites and features which will be referred to in future hearings with petitioners.

The Committee intends to visit Manchester to see relevant sites later in its programme. Further details on this will be announced in due course.
