Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has been released by police this evening
The disgraced former prince was arrested, questioned, then released under caution over allegations of misconduct in a public office
Mountbatten Windsor was in police custody for nearly twelve hours after being arrested at his home on the Sandringham Estate
King said in a statement released hours after Mr Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest that “the law must take its course”.
In a message signed off “Charles R”, he said: “I have learnt with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. What now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities.
“In this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and co-operation. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.”
The former prince is the first senior member of the Royal family in modern history to be arrested
Thames Valley police had earlier announced a full inquiry into allegations that Andrew leaked information to Epstein when he was trade envoy and had a duty of confidentiality. According to emails in the Epstein files, a massive cache of information released by the US Department of Justice, Andrew appears to have forwarded to Epstein official reports of trips to Singapore, Hong Kong and Vietnam in 2010 and 2011.
Mountbatten Windsor had previously denied all the allegations
