Work to improve traffic flow and bus journey times along the A6 in Pendleton will start later this month.
The scheme will deliver an upgrade and efficiency improvements at the Broad Street/Frederick Road junction and provide new segregated cycling and walking facilities. The scheme will also include the creation of a bus priority cut through from the A6 to Belvedere Road. This will allow buses to avoid Pendleton Roundabout which will reduce congestion at the roundabout and improve bus journey times and reliability.
New signalised pedestrian crossing facilities will also be introduced at the junction of the bus priority route and Belvedere Road.
Contractors Eurovia have been appointed to carry out the work on behalf of Salford City Council with site preparation works starting from Monday 20 September 2021.
Traffic management will be in place on Belvedere Road from Thursday 30 September and on the A6, Broad Street from Monday 4 October. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the works. The traffic management will include lane closures along with pedestrian crossing, footway and cycle lane closures, all with provisions for alternative routes and crossing points.
The scheme, which is part of the Salford Bolton Network Improvement (SBNI) programme, is expected to last for approximately six months and is likely to cause short-term delays to traffic using the route. Please see www.tfgm.com for the latest travel information.
Councillor Mike McCusker, Lead Member for Planning and Sustainable Development said: “Once completed, this scheme will benefit everyone who uses the roads.
“By 2040 the ambition is for 50% of all journeys in Greater Manchester to be made by walking, cycling and public transport to reduce congestion on the roads and improve air quality. The changes we are making here and as part of the wider Salford Bolton Network Improvement scheme, will help towards that target.”
