More travel disruption is expected today after Easyjet cancelled over 200 flights including at Manchester airport.

EasyJet cancelled more than 200 flights at the weekend and said around 60 would be cancelled on Monday.

The airline said that it had appointed standby crews to soften the impact, and said when cancelling routes it would consolidate flights where it had multiple options.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to customers on affected flights,” it said in a statement. “Customers have been contacted and provided with their options which include rebooking onto an alternative flight or receiving a voucher or full refund.”

The cancellations will add to the chaos already at the airport with mages from the airport on Saturday night show huge queues and mountains of baggage waiting to be sorted. The scenes at Manchester airport were labelled “a disgrace” as footage emerged of chaotic scenes at security.

Pictures taken this morning show long lines of people queuing to get through to security and departures, while passengers have also bemoaned a lack of organisation at the check-in desks. In a tongue-in-cheek Twitter post, one frustrated traveller described a snaking queue at the airport as a world record attempt at the ‘world’s slowest, longest conga line’.
