Greater Manchester Police are investigating a member of staff at a school in Bolton for suspected grooming offences

He was arrested yesterday morning and remains in custody

Police say they are in the early stages of their investigation, with work currently ongoing as the full circumstances are established. We are aware of interest online, and we are urging the public to not speculate about the identifies of those involved.

Safeguarding and welfare are at the forefront of our work, and we are liaising with the appropriate local authorities to ensure that anyone with concerns is given the best support available.

Detective Inspector Janet Malone, from Greater Manchester Police’s Bolton district, said: “Any report of this nature is something that we deal with robustly, thoroughly, and with the sensitivity that it deserves.

“We are in contact with the affected girls and their families, and we are supporting them as our investigation progresses. In addition, we are working with the local authority and the appropriate partners to address any issues raised by understandably concerned parents and carers.

“The current investigation relates to three girls, and while we are of course assessing if any further incidents have occurred, we aim to establish this during our enquiries.

“We are aware that rumours are circulating on social media, and I would urge people to not speculate or share alleged names. In any case, this could damage our investigation and similarly, misidentification can cause significant problems and harm itself.

“If anyone has any information that they would like to share – either directly or anonymously – I would ask them to get in touch with our investigating team. They will be best placed to assist and provide support.”
