The Guardian and The Times business journalist Jon Card has teamed up with Manchester based PR agency, Toast PR to bring a unique event to the city aimed at helping tech companies and start-ups gain press and publicity for their company.
The event ‘What tech companies and start-ups need to know about the media’ will be held at Grindsmith on Thursday 8th March and will bring together entrepreneurs, journalists and PR professionals.
Jon Card will bring his 15-years’ worth of experience interviewing entrepreneurs and will provide attendees with insight on why some companies gain more publicity than others, why a PR campaign might not be working and what can be done to gain more publicity and awareness.
The event will be host to a panel of tech and start-up businesses who will also give event-goers an insider perspective of what has worked for them with the media and what the effects on their business have been.
Attendees will leave the session with an understanding of the media landscape with answers to some of the burning questions – why some campaigns fail while others gain huge amounts of coverage and what companies need to do to prepare for interactions with the press.
Other key talking points will be creating a compelling narrative, finding the right journalist contact, how and when to approach a journalist and the key resources needed for companies to launch a successful media campaign.
Managing Director of Toast PR Julia Mitchell says, “We’re excited to be working with Jon to bring this event to Manchester. He’s well known to us through pitching stories on behalf of our tech businesses and start-up clients. We know firsthand how beneficial media knowledge is in creating a worthwhile campaign so it seemed liked a great opportunity to share the love and Jon’s expertise with Manchester’s growing tech and start-up scene!
There will also be a chance for businesses to pitch themselves to Jon directly at the event so in terms of value, it’s a great morning for any business looking for more press exposure and skills”.
The event will be held at Grindsmith on Deansgate on Thursday 8th March at 8.30am until 11am. Tickets range between £45- £60 and can be purchased through the Eventbrite website.
