The Mancunian Way will be completely closed from 8am – 6pm on both Saturday 24 March and Sunday 25 March, to allow its annual maintenance inspection to be carried out.

Up to 100 engineers will be working around the clock throughout the weekend to conduct the safety inspection, which is a legal requirement and important to keep commuters safe.

In order to minimise disruption to drivers, as much additional work as possible will be carried out during the closure, including routine maintenance of street-lighting, crash barriers, signs, gully cleaning and additional road repairs.

Diversionary routes will be clearly signposted, but drivers are advised to plan their journey – avoiding driving across the city centre, or considering using public transport, if possible – and to allow extra journey time.

The weekend of 24 – 25 March has been selected as there are no major sporting or other events taking place in the city at this time.

The council is working closely with Transport for Greater Manchester’s Urban Traffic Control Team, who will be monitoring traffic flows this weekend.  The team will be adjusting signal times to accommodate traffic flow and reduce congestion as necessary.
