Manchester will play host to the exclusive first preview of independent thriller, ‘Keeping Rosy’ starring Maxine Peake and Inbetweeners’ star Blake Harrison next month, in a brand new immersive pop-up cinema from the 6th June before its UK National Release in London on 27th June.
In true Manchester style, the tense psychological thriller will not be debuted at a generic screening in a nameless bar, but rather in the top of an office block in the city centre, so the audience can fully immerse themselves in the surroundings of the film.
Oozing with tension, the film takes the audience on a heart-racing journey of the disintegration of London-based career woman Charlotte’s (Maxine Peake) ‘perfect world’. As her life unravels, the plot becomes darker with the introduction of Blake’s character ‘Roger’ – a violent, psychopathic security guard. Rochdale-born actress Christine Bottomley plays Charlotte’s sister.
Keeping Rosy is the third collaboration from producers Richard Holmes and Isabelle Georgeaux following foodie-comedy Jadoo which was in official selection at this year’s Berlin Film Festival; and Resistance which saw Sharon Morgan win Best Actress at the 2012 BAFTA Cymru Awards. Award-winning Richard also co-wrote and produced other British films such as Shooting Fish, Eden Lake and Waking Ned.
Richard said: “When we first started thinking about the film’s preview we knew we wanted to do it differently, Charlotte – Maxine’s character – is a very strong woman, whose roots – like Maxine’s – are in the North, which got us thinking that Manchester would be the perfect city for the film’s debut.
Isabelle added: “We know that the people of Manchester like to do things differently, so we chose to use a tower block on Portland Street as the venue for cinema and have added some special touches to heighten the cinema experience for the audience. Most of the action in the film takes place in a high rise apartment block, so mirroring the film’s surroundings means that the audience cannot help but feel involved in the action. We’re all really looking forward to seeing the audience’s reaction.”
Maxine Peake said: “Manchester is a city close to my heart and one that is brimming with culture and creativity; I’m delighted that Keeping Rosy is being showcased first in Manchester before anywhere else, especially in such a unique and inspiring way.”
The film will be exclusively previewed in Manchester on 6th June and will run for four weeks at the office block pop-up immersive cinema at 55 Portland Street, before it’s UK national release in London on 27th June where it will be screened at Picturehouse venues in the capital and on to other Picturehouse venues across the country from 15th July.
