The rivalry between Manchester United and Manchester City is one of the oldest in the world of football. The two sides of the city are in perennial competition in every aspect of the game.

On the field or off the field, the rivalry continues regardless of the fact if it’s the season or the off-season. The two teams have a history of competing in the transfer market and making moves based on what the other team is doing during the transfer window.

The same has been the case this season; however, the situations have slightly changed. While CIty is making signings to further strengthen its squad and compete for the Champions League, United is in the process of a rebuild and is looking to not only strengthen its team but also sign some young talent to build a squad that can compete for years to come.

United is starting from the bottom and establishing new foundations whereas City is working on further strengthening its foundations and solidifying its place on the top. If you’re a football fan who loves gaming, you can find a number of great games to play in the live casino at casino 777.

Both teams have been active in this transfer window and have made a number of signings to improve their existing squads. Below, we take a look at how both teams have done so far and which club is having the better window.

Manchester City

The blue side of Manchester is on top of English football right now and is enjoying its most dominant period yet. The club won the Premier League last season and made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League. However, for the owners and fans of City, the Premier League isn’t enough anymore; they want to sit on top of European football and win the elusive Champions League title.

To further boost their chances of winning the champions league, the reigning Premier Champions have signed Erling Haaland, the most sought-after young striker in Europe, and gotten themselves a proper number 9.

The club has also strengthened its midfield with the signing of Kalving Wright Phillips, the Leeds United defensive mid who impressed everyone during the Euros.

Manchester United

Like their noisy neighbors, United has also been busy this summer; the club has made a couple of quality signings and has a number of players on its radar to fill the voids in the starting lineup that have been so hard to fill.

Tyrell Malacia provides much-needed cover on the full-back positions; it is a great signing, given that the club desperately needed a good full-back. The signing of Christian Eriksen is also a great one, given the departure of Paul Pogba.

The club is also set to complete the transfer of Lisandro Martinez, which will provide great defensive cover and help strengthen the back four. However, the Frankie De Jong saga does not seem to be going anywhere, every day, there is a new twist in the story, and it remains to be seen what becomes of this deal.

If United can secure the transfer of De Jong and add more depth to the midfield, they will have made a great move, but as things stand, they are still in the waiting line.

There are some other targets on Ten Hag’s radar as well, but before moving on to them, the club needs to complete the existing deals.

Verdict

Both of the teams have been active this summer and have made several quality signings; however, both have different goals in mind. One is signing players so that it can win the champions league, while the other is signing players so that it can make it back into the champions league.

United still has a lot of business to do this window if the club is to compete for anything this year whereas City looks set to take on the European elite.
