A shoebox appeal with a difference that aims to aid women in crisis, has been launched by a Chorlton Mum across the North West today (Friday, November 2).

Female-focused women’s organisation, Elle for Elle hopes to collect hundreds of donated shoeboxes filled with beauty, cosmetics and fragrance over the next six weeks to deliver to women spending Christmas in refuges in Greater Manchester, Cheshire and beyond.

Elle for Elle founders Rachel O’Hare and Lynette Page-Collin, from Chorlton, have won the support of Travel Counsellors, Trafford Park which will act as a drop off point from now until December 18th for the Beauty Shoebox Appeal.

The shoeboxes will go to Women’s Aid Manchester amongst the dozens of other organisations that help women in crisis in the North West all year round.

It’s hoped that the Beauty Shoebox Appeal will give women fleeing domestic abuse the gift of self-care this Christmas, says mum-of-three Lynette.

Fellow mum-of-three Rachel, from Mere added: “Our children have been filling shoeboxes for years to send away, and we loved the sentiment that a small box filled with goodies can bring so much happiness.”

Lynette added: “We want to recreate that happiness in the refuges we visit, where women are at their very lowest, especially at this very important time of year. We hope the Beauty Shoeboxes will give them a feeling self-love again this Christmas.”
