Fast-growing Manchester Kombucha business, Hip Pop, has smashed its crowdfunding target in just a matter of hours and added 155 new investors.

Hosted on Kickstarter, the ‘Kickass Kombucha’ campaign went live on Tuesday [10th November], and within less than a day the start-up had beaten its original target of £10,000.

Founded in 2019 by friends and Kombucha enthusiasts Emma Thackray and Kenny Goodman, Hip Pop produces organic, vegan Kombucha – a healthy, sparkling fermented soft drink made from tea which is full of antioxidants, friendly bacteria, immune-boosting vitamins and organic acids.

The funding will be used to invest in a new and improved fermenting vessel to make the fermentation process faster and more efficient, and an eco-heating system which is better for the environment and keeps the tea warm, so it ferments faster and uses less energy.

Hip Pop has been helped along on its journey by non-executive director, , co-founder and previous chief marketing officer of Grenade — a healthy snacking brand offering high protein and low sugar nutrition bars.

“The Hip Pop team live and breathe Kombucha and are so completely dedicated to making their products the best that they can be.

“It has been wonderful to be a part of the business’ journey and to see it exceed the crowdfunding target in such a short time. The response is testament to how well-loved the brand is, and how determined people are to help small businesses thrive even in the middle of a global pandemic.”

“We so easily could have delayed our Kickstarter campaign to next year, given the current crisis and its huge economic impact, but feedback from Kombucha fans persuaded us to push on with our mission to brew the tastiest and healthiest Kombucha on the planet, and the response speaks for itself. The most popular rewards have been the actual product, so we know people love our Kombucha.

We are blown away by the support and generosity of our community and are excited to put our expansion plans into action in the months to come so we can make our Kombucha even better. There are still 24 days of the campaign to go, so we hope we can gather even more support in that time.”
