Police are investigating after a man was shot in Heywood this evening.

The shooting took place At around 7:05pm this evening on Pleasant Street

The man was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

There remains a large police presence at the scene as officers carrying out enquiries.

Superintendent Dave Pester of Greater Manchester Police said: “Understandably this incident is going to cause some alarm to local people however I want to assure them that we are doing all we can to find the person responsible.

“We remain in the very early stages of the investigation and there are a number of enquiries being carried out by detectives as we speak but I would ask that anybody with information about this incident please contact police immediately.

“There is likely to continue to be a large police presence for some time as officers work at the scene and I would encourage anybody who has concerns to approach one of these officers and speak to them.”
