A man has been jailed for 23 years for the manslaughter of Kailem Gibson in Newton Heath in August 2025

Martin Alan Davies aged 36 of Gilmerton Drive, Manchester, has been sentenced to 19 years, extended to 23 years, at Manchester Crown Court for the fatal stabbing of Kailem Gibson

The court heard how  Davies attacked 20-year-old Kailem Gibson with a knife at an address on Gilmerton Drive.

His victim  sadly succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital five days later

In a statement, Kailem’s family said: “Today our family received the sentencing verdict to the death of my beloved son, Kailem, aged 28 years old.  The defendant was found guilty of manslaughter, it wasn’t the outcome we wanted and it does not take the pain our family feels every single day.  Nothing can bring Kailem back and the loss we carry will remain with us forever.

“Kailem was full of life and had a personality that could light up any room.  He was funny, always laughing and joking and he had a way of making the most out of everything.  He never took life too seriously and always managed to make people smile even in difficult moments.

“To us Kailem was so much more than the victim of a crime.  He was a loving son, brother, father, nephew, cousin and friend, and he meant the world to our family.  His laughter, energy and kindness touched everyone who knew him and his absence has left a hole in our lives that can never be filled.

“We would like to thank the police and legal team who worked hard to bring the case to court, as well as everyone who has supported our family during this incredibly difficult time.

“We also want to use this moment to say clearly that knife crime is totally unacceptable and no family should have to experience the pain and devastation that comes from using a knife and losing a loved one in this way.  Our hope is that Kailem’s story reminds people of the devastating consequences of violence and encourages change so that other families do not have to go through what we have.

“We will continue to remember Kailem for the joy he brought into our lives. Kailem was and is still deeply loved and will always be remembered.  His memory will live on in our hearts forever.

“We kindly ask that our family’s privacy is respected as we continue to grieve.”
