A man has been arrested as part of an investigation into suspicious items found in Fallowfield.

Police have revealed that they attended an address at Edward Sutcliffe Close, Fallowfield, as part of an ongoing investigation into suspicious items which had been discarded at Abram Close on Saturday

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of offences under Section 4 of the Explosives Act.

During a search of the property, additional items of concern were located. As a precaution, Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended the scene and nearby properties were evacuated.

Residents have since been able to return to their homes.

The man remains in police custody for questioning and enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Claire Brennan, from our Major Investigation Team, said: “We have a man in custody, and our investigation is progressing at pace.

“These incidents are currently being treated as isolated. We do not believe there is a wider threat to the community and would like to thank residents for their patience and support”

“There will be continued police activity at the address as enquiries remain ongoing, and we encourage anyone with information to speak to officers at the scene.

“We will have an enhanced neighbouring patrol within the area over the next few days to provide reassurance.”
