A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault after 80-year-old man and his son were assaulted in Rochdale

The attack took place on Saturday night outside the NatWest Bank on Packer Street and the elderly gentleman sustained multiple fractures and facial injuries.

Police are still looking for a second suspect believed to have been involved in the attack.

Detective Constable Melanie Jeffery, of Rochdale CID, said: “This appears to have been an unprovoked attack on an elderly gentleman and his son who were walking for a taxi.

“CCTV of the incident have been obtained but there may also have been a number of witnesses to the incident in the vicinity and we ask for them to come forward.”
