A member of Rochdale Libraries team has bookmarked hundreds of pounds after snapping an iconic image to win a national photography competition.

Maggie Barakas, a senior library and information assistant, showed off her creative talents when libraries across the country were challenged to capture the BorrowBox eBook display in unique locations.

Her novel idea showcased Rochdale Town Hall, the dinosaur garden, Dippy and the town’s rich heritage in one stunning snap to wow judges and scoop first prize.

The judging panel praised the photo for a brilliant representation of ‘anywhere, everywhere’, dynamic photo skills and finding a creative way of capturing BorrowBox whilst promoting the local community.

The £250 ‘BorrowBox on Tour’ prize has been used by the library service to purchase new eAudiobook titles, related to this year’s Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival guests.

‘My creative plan was to snap our most famous building next to one of our most famous visitors’
A delighted Maggie said: “I thought I would do something a bit different that would capture the borough’s proud past as well, as its exciting regeneration vision. My creative plan was to snap our most famous building next to one of our most famous visitors. It took a bit of effort to get the BorrowBox display on top of Dippy, but it was all worth it. Winning was a great surprise and I am chuffed to have played my part in writing the next chapter of success stories for our library service.”
