The M60 remains closed this morning nearly nearly 17 hours after a multi vehicle crash around Stockport yesterday lunchtime
The crash involved eight vehicles four lorries and four cars and has led to the complete closure of the M60 motorway in both directions.
The incident occurred between Junction 27 (Portwood roundabout) and Junction 1 (Stockport Pyramid).
Emergency services responded swiftly, and although the scene looked catastrophic, no serious injuries were reported those involved only sustained minor injuries.
The collision triggered chaos, with traffic being held entirely in both directions. Drivers were stranded for hours, and the effects rippled across surrounding routes, worsening congestion.
According to National Highways, the crash also caused significant infrastructure damage, including smashed barriers, lamp posts, and widespread fuel spillage. One of the lorries spilled its load of beer barrels, contributing further to the mess and extending clean-up operations.
National Highways issued a statement acknowledging the complexity of the scene: “Multi-vehicle collision, infrastructure damage (barrier, lamp columns), fuel spillage and a shed load. Thankfully only minor injuries but substantial clean-up required.”
