The UK has recorded 1,322 further deaths from Covid it has been announced.

The figure is  down from 1,449 yesterday, and down from 1,725 a week ago today. The total number of deaths over the last seven days is 13.4% down on the previous week.

The rate of infection meanwhile is up on the previous day, as the country recorded 19,202 further cases.  The number of cases in the last seven days is 25.1% down on the previous week.

Over 10 million people have now been vaccinated in the UK after 374,756 people received their first dose of vaccine yesterday.

Speaking at the Downing Street Press Conference, the Prime Minister said it is thanks to the NHS that we have passed the milestone of getting 10 million people vaccinated with a first dose.

He said that new research from Oxford shows how effective the AstraZeneca vaccine is after just one dose.”

He added that 95 per cent of those aged 80 and over in England have now been vaccinated along with all elderly care home residents.

Johnson has urged the nation to participate in the national clap for Captain Sir Tom Moore planned for tonight at 6pm.

He said: “Let us clap for the spirit of optimism that Captain Tom stood for.”Echoing the veteran’s own words, Mr Johnson said: “Tomorrow will be a good day”.
