A Salford based band is to give all the proceeds of its swansong album to homelessness charity Coffee4Craig.
The ascension, a gritty urban duo who have played together for eight years, have just released Hierachy, their long-awaited first album.
And thanks to a connection to the housing world, they’ve decided to donate all the proceeds to support the Salford-based charity.

Councillor Paul Longshaw, lead member for housing and neighbourhoods, said: “Some time ago, before I was elected to Salford City Council I worked with the organisers behind local digital label German Shepherd Records.

“I was at a gig run by the label and one of the co-owners of the label asked me to recommend a local charity that they could support. Doug and Neil from The ascension, a band whose music I have long enjoyed, wanted a worthy cause to donate the proceeds of the sale of the album to.

“We talked about all the issues that Salford City Council has raised about the current challenges to tackle homelessness. I immediately suggested Coffee4Craig as they are trying to use the former Woolpack site in Pendleton to support homeless people as well as continuing their street kitchens and day to day help.

“I was delighted when the band said yes. Huge thanks to German Shepherd, Doug and Neil for supporting a great cause. The band’s social commentary is music at its very best and as a recent review said ‘you can dance to it and it makes you think.”

Hendrix Lancaster of Coffee4Craig said: “As a charity we rely on donations from the public and businesses in the North West, but the fact that a really great local band wants to support us is fantastic!

“ We are absolutely blown away and truly touched by their thoughtfulness. We believe the album is a wicked soundtrack for life.Their support boosts what we do immensely and the funds raised means we are able to continue our good work through 2017.”
