Boris Johnson has apologised for the Downing Street party on the 20th of May and says that while he was there for 25 minutes and thought it was a works event but said that with hindsight he should have sent the people at the Downing Street party back inside.

In a furious session of Prime Minister’s Questions,Kier Starmer called for Johnson to resign and called his apology pathetic-

“Why does the Prime Minister think the rules don’t apply to him”he says adding that “Will the British public kick him out, will his party kick him out or will he do the honourable thing and resign

The leader of the Scottish Nationalist Party Ian Blackford said Johnson has no shame. He was drinking and laughing in his garden while the public were suffering.

“If the prime minister has no sense of shame, the Tory backbenchers must act to remove him.”

Answering calls for his resignation Boris Johnson said that people should wait for the results of the officail inquiry.

Earlier Labour’s deputy leader and Tameside MP Angela Rayner has said Boris Johnson’s position is “completely untenable”, following allegations that he and his wife Carrie attended a Downing Street garden drinks party during the first lockdown.

Ms Rayner told Sky News the prime minister has “not only broke the rules, but he’s lied to the British public”.

In another interview on BBC Breakfast, asked if Johnson would have to resign if he did admit to attending the 20 May party, Rayner said:

“Boris Johnson has to account for his actions and the ministerial code is very clear that if he has misled parliament and he has not abided by that code, then he should go.”

Meanwhile Conservative Bury MP Christian Wakeford has tweeted this morning that he is being asked to defend the indefensible

He tweeted earlier this morning

“How do you defend the indefensible? You can’t! It’s embarrassing and what’s worse is it further erodes trust in politics when it’s already low. We need openness, trust and honesty in our politics now more than ever and that starts from the top”
