A man who stabbed another man to death in Salford has been jailed for life.

29 year old Piotr Olejarczyk  of Knoll Street, Salford was found guilty of murder of Jakub Gorski, after a trial at Manchester Crown Court and will serve a minimum of 21 years

The court heard that on Friday 10 June 2016, Jakub Gorski, 20, and his brother went to Piotr Olejarczyk’s house in Higher Broughton, but he wasn’t in. They decided to walk to the shop and, as they were on Hope Street, they saw him. A short argument took place between the men and Olejarczyk then turned and walked away.

Olejarczyk went into a friend’s house and took a knife from the kitchen. He walked back down Hope street and shouted after Jakub and his brother.

Jakub approached him and tried to disarm him but Olejarczyk stabbed him in the chest and fled.

Jakub collapsed and emergency services were called. He was taken to hospital but sadly died in hospital the following day.

A Home Office post mortem concluded that he died from a single stab wound which had penetrated his heart.

That same evening Olejarczyk approached two PCSOs who were stationed at the crime scene and told them he had been involved in an incident the night before. He was taken to a police station where he was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Senior Investigating Officer, Duncan Thorpe, from GMP’s Major Incident Support Unit said: “Jakub’s death was a tragic event which has left his loved ones devastated.

“Olejarczyk could have just walked away after the argument, but instead he chose to arm himself with a knife and confront Jakub.

“I hope that this sentence brings some closure for Jakub’s family.”
