As COP26 kicks off, National Grid lit up famous landmarks across Manchester this weekend with messages for world leaders on climate change to encourage them to act ahead of the crunch talks over the next fortnight.

The light show beamed pleas from schoolchildren to pensioners across the UK onto the three iconic locations: the Arndale Centre, Deansgate Station and The University of Manchester. As part of National Grid’s Voice of All campaign, messages have been received from across the globe including France, Austria, India, and Canada to name a few. Messages projected included “keep 1.5°c alive”, “help us change our future” and “the small choices of the many and the big choices of the few can move us to a greener future”. Written and spoken by a powerful AI, National Grid will bring those messages together into a single speech, premiering at COP26 on 6th November.

Glasgow and London also saw iconic locations lit up across the weekend.
