Lancashire Cricket will celebrate the international career of James Anderson, with a special presentation on the Emirates Old Trafford outfield, during day one (Wednesday 21 August) of the first Test Match against Sri Lanka.

Anderson – who has not confirmed a decision on his Lancashire future – will play his 188th and final Test for England against West Indies at Lord’s in July, but fans will get a chance to show their appreciation for the all-time leading wicket-taker for a seamer in Tests during the first day of the Emirates Old Trafford Test on Wednesday 21 August. The presentation will take place during the lunch interval on the opening day.

Anderson – who took match figures of 8/64 against Nottinghamshire at Southport this week – has spent his entire county career with the Red Rose and the day will give an opportunity for England and Lancashire supporters to say ‘Thank you, Jimmy’ following the 41-year-olds final Test appearance at Lord’s next week against West Indies.

Andy Anson, Chair at Lancashire Cricket, said: “We are incredibly proud of Jimmy and all of his achievements in an England shirt.

“Once it was confirmed that his final Test would take place at Lord’s, we wanted to celebrate his record-breaking international career at his home venue of Emirates Old Trafford.

“It will be an emotional day and a chance for fans to say ‘Thank You Jimmy’ and with this being the only Test in the North this summer, it will provide supporters with a special opportunity to celebrate one of the all-time greats.”

Tickets are still available for day one of the Sri Lanka Test as Emirates Old Trafford acknowledges the international career of one of the all-time greats.
