The latest landmark development in the district, where more than £100 million has been invested since 2008, will see soil and groundwater-testing laboratory firm Envirolab creating at least 200 jobs.

Hattersley Science and Technology Park (HSTP) will occupy a 4,700 square metres (1.16-acres) site at Hattersley Industrial Estate.

Cllr Oliver Ryan, Tameside Council’s executive member for finance and growth, said: “This innovative development of the Hattersley Science and Technology Park will create around 200 jobs in a part of the borough which has benefited in recent years from significant investment and development. This is a vote of confidence in our borough and despite a varied national economic picture, Tameside is firmly open for business.

“This scheme builds on our wider strategy to deliver homes, retail, transport and jobs in Hattersley and across the borough. Our investment in digital and advanced skills through Vision Tameside will put our residents in a great position to take advantage of these new jobs.

“The new science park is exactly the sort of high-tech development we want to encourage as we continue to equip Tameside to be at the leading edge of advanced industry in the 21st century economy.”
