Jimmy Savile’s former driver Ray Teret has died in Strangeways prison it has been announced after contracting Covid.

Teret aged 79 from Altrincham was a flatmate of Savile’s and worked for him as his chauffeur.

He was serving serving 25 years for seven rapes and 11 indecent assaults on girls as young as 13 after being jailed back in 2014.

During his trial the court heard that the duo who had first met in the 1960’s  used Savile’s celebrity status to prey on a host of young girls.

The pair were celebrities on the Manchester nightclub scene in the 1960s and 70s.Teret worked for several radio stations in the Manchester area, including Piccadilly Radio

Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court heard he followed Savile “like a shadow” and drove girls to evil Savile’s lair where they abused them together.

Savile died in 2012 without ever being convicted of his crimes

A Prison Service spokeswoman said: “HMP Manchester prisoner Ray Teret died in prison on May 5.

“The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has been informed.”
