A man has been jailed for the murder of Kyle Hand in Gorton in March this year.

Jovan Martin 27,  of Whitburn Avenue, Manchester was found guilty of the murder after a trial at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square and was this afternoon sentenced to life and will serve a minimum of 27 years in prison. He was also sentenced to five years to run concurrently for possession of an offensive weapon.

The court was told that on the evening of Monday 21 March 2016, Martin was inside a house on Sunny Brow Road in Gorton with 28-year-old Kyle Hand when a fight broke out. This spilled into the street and Martin stabbed Kyle in the neck, thigh and buttock.

Kyle was taken to hospital but he sadly later died from his injuries. A Home Office post-mortem concluded he died from multiple stab wounds.

Chief Inspector Debbie Dooley said: “This is a tragic and unnecessary loss of life and my heart goes out to Kyle’s family.

“Jovan Martin will now spend the next 27 years of his life behind bars and I hope his sentence goes some way to give Kyle’s family the justice they deserve.”
