The fifth in a series of live talks organised by Anotherway Now will be held at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation in Manchester on Thursday 19th May 2016. The event is aimed at anyone with an enthusiasm for thought-provoking discussion.

May’s event will see Jack Monroe – author, chef, Guardian and occasional New York Times columnist, transgender activist and passionate advocate for the economically disadvantaged and dispossessed – tell their story.

Tickets cost £12, or £6 for students and concessions, and the event, which begins at 7.30pm, will run until 9.30pm.

Jack’s passion as a food writer, chef and hunger and poverty campaigner springs from personal experience: the experience of having to feed themself and their young son while living on the bread line. As well as confronting some of our mostly deeply held prejudices about class and food, Jack challenges us to think another way about gender. (In 2013, Jack was ranked number 19 on The Independent on Sunday’s Pink List of the most influential LGBT people in the UK.) Jack has more than held their own on BBC1’s Question Time, or when going head-to-head with the likes of Michael Portillo. More recently, Jack launched a libel action against the “TV personality” and controversial newspaper columnist Katie Hopkins, after Hopkins wrongly accused Jack of vandalising a war memorial.

Anotherway Now is the creation of training and development organisation Anotherway Associates Ltd. Phil Brisk, Director of Anotherway Associates, says ‘we created Anotherway Now as a way for us as much as anyone else to grow and learn through listening to, and talking with, a range of intelligent, honest, good-hearted individuals who each have an interesting take on life. It’s an opportunity for us to talk to some very interesting and inspiring people. We want to share that.’

Anotherway Now events will be held at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation in Manchester at bi-monthly intervals. The event on 19th May forms part of a series on the theme ‘brave choices’.
