Yes it’s the Ribble valley, a short drive up the M66/A56 or the M6 or by train to Clitheroe.

The area is according to the Office for National Statistics the happiest place in the country.

On a scale of 0 to 10, its  residents scored an average of 8.30 when asked by government surveyors about how happy they felt.

The average for the UK as a whole was 7.56 with the Orkney islands second  Chichester third, Hambleton fourth and Lancashire’s Fylde Coast, also a short drive away from Manchester, in fifth place.

Tourists like it as well, they generated £260m for the Ribble Valley economy last year, an increase of 7.3 per cent on 2017.

People are no doubt attracted by its rolling hills, charming villages, and excellent local restaurants.

There also plenty of local history, the Pendle witches in particular drawing people to the area while The Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in which several spots (Beacon Fell Country Park, Crook O’Lune Picnic Site, Slaidburn and Gisburn Forest Hub) have become official Dark Sky Discovery Sites.
