The five o clock deadline has past with neither Bury or Bolton having found new owners.

Earlier this afternoon The Football League  announced the Company that were in discussions to take over the Bury har withdrawn their interest

The statement said that
The EFL Board has been informed that C&N Sporting Risk will no longer be pursuing their interest in Bury FC.

The League announced at the weekend that it was working exclusively with the Club and C&N in an attempt to finalise a change of control at the Club. However, following a period of due diligence, C&N have opted not to progress matters.

“The League continues to be in discussions with Bury FC in advance of today’s 5pm deadline and will provide a further update as appropriate.”

Bury MP James Firth told BBC Radio 5 Live that there were “financiers here who have no care for the state of football clubs, no care for the state of Bury”.

“[They] are completely ignoring the fate that awaits us, completely ignoring the efforts to save the club, completely ignoring the community’s wishes, completely ignoring the heritage and history of our dear club.”

He added: “They have signed the death penalty essentially for Bury Football Club.”

“Owners have fancied themselves as a regional Roman Abramovich. The egos are writ large on this without any justification.”

Bolton Wanderers meanwhile have confirmed that discussions with a potential buyer are ongoing ahead of their 5.00pm deadline

Earlier today Tom Watson, Shadow Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Secretary, commenting on deadlines for Bury FC and Bolton Wanderers to complete a sale to avoid expulsion from the English Football League, said:

“This is a desperately sad day for Bury FC and Bolton Wanderers and a deeply worrying time for the fans of both teams. I sincerely hope a resolution can be reached to save the clubs.

“This situation highlights how football governance needs to change. Labour will give supporters the opportunity to have a greater say in how their clubs are run, and it’s clear that the regulations around the governance of ownership of football clubs need a complete overhaul.”
