Inflation has reached its highest level since January 2024 hitting 3.8 per cent in July, up from 3.6 per cent in June

The Office for National Statistics put the blame on higher airfares as the school holidays began

Food price inflation also continues to rise  with items such as coffee, fresh orange juice, meat and chocolate seeing the biggest rises

The Bank of England has predicted inflation would rise to 4 per cent in September.

Traditionally next year’s rsil ticket price rises are in line with July’s inflation rate,although the Government has said that no decision has as yet been made
