For 15 years Hulme Community Garden Centre’s vibrant site, incorporating a thriving garden centre and inspiring community gardens has brought the community together through gardening and provided a vital green space to enjoy, relax in, learn from and be part of.
Now they are looking to raise £15,000 through a Kickstarter campaign to help them carry their inspiring charitable work and celebrate the fact that they have been open for 15 years, bringing plants, passion and power to the people.

The centre offers a year-round range of volunteering and training opportunities; supported sessions for those with learning disabilities and mental health issues; toddler groups; school visits and much more there is never a dull moment.

Each week up to 100 volunteers engage: aged from 6 months to 83 years old, from a wide range of backgrounds, both local and not so local, who all help to develop, maintain and manage our green oasis.

Volunteers can also gain an insight into how a garden centre works, helping to produce plants for sale and learning organic methods of plant care and pest control.

In a typical year they deliver over 10,000 opportunities to encourage people to grow their own food, green their own communities, lead active and healthier lifestyles and improve their life chances.

They have been able to thrive because Manchester City Council and our centre users have encouraged us to develop the site, recently allowing us to take ownership of the adjacent car park and are about to sign a 20-year lease allowing us to continue to develop and grow.

One of their goals would be to eventually build a large multipurpose eco building to house a new shop, offices and volunteer hub.
