Highest Point festival has announced it will throw a ‘Microrave’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer support to raise vital funds

Highest Point festival has announced it will throw a ‘Microrave’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer support, to raise vital funds at this year’s festival.

Having raised more than £250,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support since the festival’s inception in 2016, Highest Point is aiming to amplify its fundraising in 2022 so that more people living with cancer can access the physical, financial and emotional support the charity gives.

As part of the jam-packed weekend of music, food and entertainment, Skiddle, the event discovery platform which works closely with Highest Point, will throw a range of fun activities in a uniquely-themed space, named the ‘MICRORAVE’. DJs from across the festival will be invited to take to the decks and have a spin in the name of charity, and the space will also play host to Sunset Sessions, with ‘Cafe Del Morecombe’ open for business, a cosy area for festival goers to relax, chill and watch the sunset.

Throughout the weekend, attendees can order a ‘Drink for Chris’ at its bars, with money donated directly to Macmillan. There will also be a raffle with a host of mystery prizes, big & small, to be won, and the MICRORAVE space will also play host to what could be the world’s first(?!) ready meal auction!

Now in its fourth year, Highest Point, which takes place Thursday 12th – Saturday 14th May 2022, will see headliners Clean Bandit, Richard Ashcroft and Kaiser Chiefs take to stage in front of 35,000 attendees in the stunning 54-acre grounds of Williamson Park in Lancaster. Sunday 15th May 2022 also sees the return of Big Family Day Out allowing families to experience the Highest Point Festival site with lots to do for all ages.

Speaking about the partnership with Macmillan, Richard Dyer, Co-founder and Director of Skiddle, said, “We’re delighted to be partnering with Macmillan Cancer Support once again to help such an important and vital cause. We appreciate the support they gave to our colleague and friend Chris Glaba and hope everyone will join us in raising further funds so Macmillan can continue the amazing work they do for people living with cancer.”

Lisa Martin, Relationship Fundraising Area Manager, Macmillan Cancer Support added, “We cannot thank Highest Point & Skiddle enough for everything they do for Macmillan Cancer Support and people living with cancer. Our relationship over the years has gone from strength to strength and we love working alongside them.

The team at Highest Point have yet again pulled it out of the bag in coming up with a fun and exciting way to fundraise with the “Microrave” and  we cannot wait to see it first-hand! To everyone attending Highest Point this year please come along, say hello and dance your way to raising some incredible funds!”

Emma Wright, who is a Senior Fundraising Manager for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, found music really helped them following their cancer diagnosis, “Music has also been important to me, and some of my best memories involve going to gigs or festivals. When I was diagnosed with cancer, I found music was like therapy. On good days and bad days there was always something to reflect the way I was feeling, or to help pick me up. I created playlists to listen to driving to and from appointments and even had a ‘Music to kill cancer to’ playlist that I listened to during endless hours of chemotherapy!”

Macmillan Cancer Support provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people who are affected by cancer, as well as looking at the social, emotional and practical impact cancer can have and campaigns for better cancer care. Macmillan’s goal is to reach and improve the lives of everyone who has cancer in the UK.
