Heaton Park Lake has been drained overnight after annual maintenance to the lake yesterday afternoon saw a valve unfortunately knocked loose.

This did not have an immediate impact so could not be identified at the time but resulted in the lake draining substantially overnight.

The Estates and Park Management teams have been onsite throughout the morning to work to refill the lake and to minimise any impact on the wildlife in the area.

The work has been a success and the lake is now in the process of being refilled.

The team say that over the next few days the lake may appear patchy as it refills which will be monitored by the Heaton Park team. You may also see some pockets of blue dye, this is the result of Fluorescein Sodium dye which was used to confirm the water diversion was a success.

This is standard for water investigation and will not harm any of the wildlife within the lake.

The park say that they are also working closely with the organisers of the Water Lantern Festival event this Saturday which remains scheduled to go ahead as planned.
