The Conservative MP for Middleton and Heywood Chris Clarkson is facing legal
Action from a Labour MP over comments he made over the Middle East hostilities

Andy McDonald, who represents the Middlesbrough constituency and was put under precautionary suspension by his party earlier this week over his comments to a mass rally last weekend referring to the phrase between the river and the sea

“We say to the UK, American and Israeli governments: Enough!

Enough of the bombardment!
Enough of the siege!
Enough of the occupation!

We won’t rest until we have justice.

Until all people, Israelis & Palestinians, between the river & the sea can live in peaceful liberty.”

Clarkson said on X,

“‘Between the River and the Sea’ is a deeply sinister antisemitic trope – seeing a Labour MP use it whilst seeking to justify the murderous actions of Hamas should be shocking. Sadly, it’s barely surprising.”

McDonald has said his solicitors are set to begin legal proceedings against Clarkson, sending him a letter of claim for libel.

“I will not stand by and have my reputation traduced.“ he said
