Despite local MP’s confirming that Greater Manchester will be placed in the Tier 2 Higher Risk level, it appears the Prime Minister has other ideas.

During exchanges in the House of Commons this afternoon as he announced his three tier strategy he told MP’s that @ what I hope is that members opposite who are calling for me to do more in Greater Manchester will prevail on the authorities in Greater Manchester to come into Tier 3 and help us to get there.”

He also said that negotiations were still continuing with local leaders and answering a question from Manchester Central MP Lucy Powell who thanked the Prime Minister for working with local leaders to help Greater Manchester “tackle the virus in Tier 2, he responded:

Interesting what she says about Greater Manchester – my information is slightly different, what I would hope is that we can work together to bring down the rates in Greater Manchester which are at present certainly worrying.”

Being placed in Tier 2 would see some regulations eased from current levels including people being able to meet in groups of six outdoors while pubs and restaurants would remain open.
