Bolton council is asking the Government to keep its Covid restrictions in place less than 24 hours before they were due to be lifted.

The Borough along with Trafford and Stockport was to be allowed to lift the socialising restrictions still imposed in six of the ten Greater Manchester Boroughs but has seen a sharp rise in cases over the past few days.

Bolton is currently recording the second highest rates of infection across Greater Manchester with its rate having more than doubled in four days.

Greater Manchester’s leaders have been meeting this morning to discuss the situation and reports say that they will be recommending to the Government that the Borough remain with additional lockdown restrictions
