This Summer, nine colleges across Greater Manchester are hosting an exciting new Festival of Technical Education for students across the region.

In 2023 Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham launched ambitious plans to make Greater Manchester the first integrated technical education, skills and work city-region. In support of this, GMColleges is set to host its inaugural Festival of Technical Education.

From the 26th June to the 7th July, the colleges are opening their doors to showcase the fantastic facilities, great courses and amazing career opportunities they have to offer, with a focus on the technical education routes and pathways available.

With a range of taster days in partnership with local schools, open evenings and award ceremonies to unique student challenges, the GMColleges Festival of Technical Education offers a window into the exciting courses available for students including apprenticeships, T Levels and Higher Technical Qualifications

Students will benefit from an opportunity to hear from leading experts across a range of technical courses and get to ‘have a go’ at new activities that will highlight the career opportunities technical education has to offer.

Anna Dawe, GMColleges Chair, explained “We are excited to launch our Festival of Technical Education. It will provide an opportunity to showcase the choice of technical pathways available in FE colleges across GM and will highlight the career opportunities that technical education offers. We want young people and our wider communities across Greater Manchester to see that no matter what your ability, your passion or your talents there are post-16 options that play to individual strengths and interests. The event will also let our young people explore the jobs of tomorrow and emerging technologies.”

All nine General Further Education colleges in Greater Manchester are part of the Greater Manchester Colleges Group including Bolton College, Bury College, Hopwood Hall College, Oldham College, Tameside College, The Manchester College, Trafford College Group, Salford City College Group and Wigan & Leigh College.

GMColleges represents the colleges, collectively delivering learning to 70,000 students, supporting them to meet the needs of the employers and the GM workforce, current and future, in key growth and employment sectors with training at all levels and ages from entry to postgraduate.
