Greater Manchester leaders will be writing to the Government asking for both Stockport and Bolton to be released from the additional socialising Covid-19 measures.

Today will see Wigan released from the regulations which see different households from mixing in homes and gardens and leaders now believe that the infection figures in both Stockport and Bolton warrant a loosening of the regulations.

Addressing this issue during this afternoon’s Greater Manchester Covid-19 Press Conference, the Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham said he would be recommending that the current restrictions in the other boroughs should remain for a further 14 days.

The restrictions are working says the Mayor with eight of out 10 of Greater Manchester Boroughs showing falls in the rate of infection. He will also be recommending that the restrictions on casinos, bowling alleys, and beauty parlours should be lifted across all ten Manchester Boroughs.

“The evidence that we have is that the vast majority of transmission of the infection is in the home and not through venues.

“The vast majority’ of people in Greater Manchester are following the rules and that’s why infection rates are falling.he added

“It will only stay in an improved position if we carry on following the advice, It’s only by being careful in the way we interact we’re going to maintain the position we’ve got.”

The Mayor refuted Government plans for a mixed position on restrictions within wards. “It’s a recipe for utter confusion, division and chaos,” he said accusing some people of playing politics at a local level,”

At the same conference the Deputy Mayor Baroness said that last weekend saw over 600 Covid incidents.Over 400 were to deal with house parties she added. This Bank Holiday weekend will see 100 extra officer drafted in from other forces.

She added that overall calls for assistance were up by 42 per cent at the moment, compared to figures prior to lockdown. On average over sixty police officers are dealing daily with calls surrounding mental health issues, double that of pre lockdown while there are 15,000 mental health calls to 999, up from 11,000 normally
