Digital ID to be made law for all adults in the UK.

The proposals are the government’s latest attempt to tackle illegal immigration, with the ID serving as a form of proof of the right to live and work in the UK.

Polling released yesterday showed that sixty one per cent of the public favoured the introduction of digital ID cards

The poll by the Tony Blair institute said If the government announces a universal digital ID to help improve our public services, it would be one of the most important steps taken by this or any government to make British citizens’ everyday lives easier

Next year will mark the twentieth anniversary of Tony Blair’s Identity Cards Act. The scheme was hotly debated for almost a decade, cost over £250 million, and was promptly abandoned by the following government.
