The House of Lords have inflicted the first defeat against Rishi Sunak’s  Rwanda deportation plan in backing by 214 votes to 171  an unprecedented move seeking to delay a treaty that paves the way for the asylum scheme

Speaking against the bill Baroness Chakrabarti said

“The Rwanda plan was not in the Tory manifesto.. It risks being contrary to UK law.. It risks breaching international law, not found by a foreign court but the highest court in the UK.. It risks breaching human rights that are baked into the hard won Good Friday Agreement.. And all this in what may be the last days of the Tory government”
