The European boss of Fujitsu has apologised for the miscarriage of justice of postmasters convicted over the flawed Horizon scheme

Speaking before a committee of MP’s Paul  Patterson said

“Fujitsu would like to apologize for our part in this appalling miscarriage of justice,”

“We were involved from the very start. We did have bugs and errors in the system. And we did help the Post Office in their prosecutions of the sub postmasters. For that we are truly sorry.”

He also said there was a “moral obligation” for Fujitsu to contribute to compensation for sub postmasters who were convicted of fraud due to errors in the Horizon IT software the firm provided to the Post Office.

“We expect to sit down with government to determine our contribution,” he said.

He added that he believed Fujitsu is “an ethical company” but “did not stand up to that” during the Post Office scandal.

Speaking earlier Nick Wallis whose book exposed the scandal reminded people that

“Fujitsu will take more than £2b out of the Horizon IT system over the lifetime of this contract… so Fujitsu have since built… an empire, in this country, on the broken backs of Sub-Postmasters…”
