Pride of Britain award winners Hughie Higginson and Freddie Xavi have embarked on a new project as part of their campaign to raise money for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, where Hughie continues to receive treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

FRIENDS ARE AMAZING is a picture book written by the boys, with illustrations by Erica Salcedo. The book aims to celebrate the power of friendship, in honour of the boys’ bond, and for each copy sold 25p will be donated to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Hughie Higginson & Freddie Xavi, from Burnley, have been fundraising for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity since 2020, when Hughie was diagnosed with ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukaemia) and began urgent treatment at the hospital. Determined to do something to support his best friend,Freddie set himself a challenge of running 2km every day in the 50 days leading up to Christmas Day 2020 – finishing his challenge live on BBC Breakfast on Christmas Day morning.

Their work has so far helped the hospital fund lifesaving medical equipment and entertainment facilities for patients. They have also set themselves a challenge this year to run 100km around different Premier League and English football clubs in order to raise money for each club’s local children’s hospital.
