This Saturday, 18 October, marks Anti-Slavery Day. To mark the occasion, the Freedom Bus will be in Oldham from 10:00 – 12:00, at Oldham Central Tram Stop, to raise awareness of modern slavery and human trafficking — crimes that continue to affect people in every community.

The Freedom Bus, hosted by the Pan-Lancashire Modern Slavery Partnership, is a mobile awareness hub covered with striking messages and the Modern Slavery & Exploitation Helpline number. It aims to encourage people to spot the signs of exploitation, speak up, and seek help.

Oldham residents are invited to visit the bus, meet local safeguarding partners, and learn how to recognise and report concerns safely and confidentially.

Councillor Elaine Taylor, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said:

“Modern slavery has no place in our borough — or anywhere. It’s shocking to think that exploitation can still be happening in our communities today, often hidden in plain sight. That’s why raising awareness is so important. The Freedom Bus helps shine a light on these crimes, giving people the knowledge and confidence to speak up if something doesn’t feel right. Together with our partners, we’re determined to protect the most vulnerable and make Oldham a place where everyone can live safely and with dignity.”
